Hierarchy of learning
All seminars for 2010 for both the HPCSA and SACSSP fall within Level 1.
These are “small group discussion” activities that do not have clearly measurable outcomes and are presented on a once-off, non-continuous basis.
Continuing Education Units [CEU's]
All seminars for 2010 are registered with both HPCSA and SACSSP CPD Accreditors.
One CEU will be awarded for each hour of attendance.

Every registered practitioner will be required to accumulate 30 CEU's per 12 month period. Accrued CEU's for CPD activities will be valid for a period of 24 months hence the required maximum number of CEU's to cover this period will be 60. Practitioners have to obtain 6 CEU's in ethics per CPD cycle (per year).
Individual CPD Activity Record is the document held by individual health practitioners as a record of every learning activity attended or completed. It should be accompanied by the Attendance Certificates for each event or series of events.
For level 3 qualifications, a certified copy of the qualification is required. The record must be regularly updated and current. In the event that a practitioner's name is drawn in the compliance check the original Individual CPD Activity Record for the previous 3 years, together with the original attendance certificates and certified copies of qualifications that may have been obtained during this period, must be sent to the CPD Department of Council within 21 days of receipt of notification of the draw.
It is each attendees own responsibility to maintain an Individual Activity Record – Form CPD 1 IAR.

Initially, all registered persons will have to obtain a minimum of 20 CPD points annually, where one point will represent approximately but not necessarily, one hour's involvement in an approved CPD activity. This includes practitioners who are 65 years of age and older and who are registered with the Council but exempted from payment of the fee.
Any points accumulated during one year in excess of 20 points may be forwarded to the following year. A maximum of 10 accumulated points may be forwarded to the next year for a maximum period of one year.
The CPD year will coincide with the Council's financial/registration year and thus extends from 1 April to 31 March of each year. This means that a Portfolio of Evidence of CPD activities that individuals have completed during a financial year must accompany their payment of annual fees in order for them to retain their registration with the Council.
It is each attendees own responsibility to maintain a Portfolio of Evidence – CPD Form 3
